My Morning Jacket- It still moves (This is a really goddamn great CD. Pick it up if you're into trippy rock.)

I just bought two cds. First Howie Day-Stop All the World Now. This is Howies second album and I expected a lot (seeing he recorded his first one before 2000). However this cd just didn't live up to expectations. The album is overproduced. Its as if Howie found himself in a big studio for the first time with everything at his disposal and went ape shit like a kid in a candy store. Sometimes less is more. Howie had three plus years and only came up with ten new songs. What happened to the singer songwriter of yesteryear who came up with a good album yearly? Still I'm going to catch Howie live (he has a great live show) and will be looking forward to his next album. He's young (only 23 I think) so expectations are still high for him.
The second album was Warren Zevon-The Wind. If you didn't know he's the guy that did the werwolves of london song. He was diagonsed with terminal cancer and spent the final year of his life writing and recording this album. Its fucking fantastic. As one of the few albums that really touch you The Wind is a must own as a man sings to the world one last time. Zevon died weeks after the album completion. Buy The Wind.

I bought three new albums today:
Hot Hot Heat - Make Up the Breakdown Finally I get around to buying this one. It clocks in at just around 30 minutes, but it's 30 minutes well spent. They manage to be both fiercely energetic punk and catchy 80's style pop. It was only 10 bucks, so I'd definitely recommend it.
Ozomatli - Coming Up EP Technically not a full album, but all the full length Ozomatli albums were too pricey. I enjoy it, but they sound less unique since they lost two members to Jurassic 5. The latin jazz influence has greatly been increased, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Morphine - Cure for Pain Haven't gotten around to listening to much of this yet, but it seems pretty promising. It's nice to have a guitarless band as an alternative.

Merry Christmas to me. Among other things, Santa left the following CDs...
The Beatles - Let it Be... Naked Ben Folds Live Ozomatli (self-titled) Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Which makes me wonder? Does Santa get RIAA approval before his elves manufacture these albums? Or is Santa actually the most successful pirate of all time? I prefer the latter.

I got John Lennons album 'Imagine'. A great album from a great songwriter. Lennon had the most succesful post Beatles career (Wings sucked and Harrison only did 'All Things Must Pass') and this album is one of his two best along with 'Plast Ono Band'.
Santa's a pirate. He couldn't afford all the royalties he'd have to pay.
