I saw Robert Randolph and the Family Band with Eric Clapton last night.
RRATFB's thirty minute opener kicked the shit out of Clapton's entire 2 and a half hour set (Clapton's set was pretty awesome, though). They did this thing where they all switched intruments... while playing them. It was fucking crazy.
Oh, and for the encore, Randolph and Clapton had a guitar duel. Robert was on his pedal steel, Clapton on his electric. RR totally smoked Clapton's ass.

Saw the Clarks on the 18th. Fucking amazing. Two of the opening bands, Good Brother Earl and the Pat Megee Band, were fucking great as well though Rhett Miller (of the Old 97's) left a lot to be desired. The Clarks played a lot of new songs which, of course, rocked. Setlist:
Better Off Without You You Know Everything Help Me Out Shimmy Low Wait A Minute Caroline Rise & Fall Fast Moving Cars Anymore Boys Lie Blue Snowman Highwire Born 2 Late Hey You Kiss (Prince cover) Hell on Wheels She Says Happy Chasin Girls Butterflies and Airplanes Let it go On Saturday The River (Springstein cover) Ciggie (BEST LIVE SOONG EVER!)
I was planning on seeing the Clarks on the 19th but started drinking in downtown Pittsburgh around noon. By seven I couldn't get of the floor.

Went with the author and mulligan to the Ben Folds/Guster show last night at Wolf Trap. Beyond the fact that Wolf Trap was certainly not the best venue for an good show, though it did bring in a large crowd, I thought the show was alright. Certainly it wasn't as amazing as the George Washington U. show, as it lacked the intimacy, interaction, and set length for Ben, but I did enjoy seeing M. Folds interact with other bands and play a few songs outside of his normal set list. As for Guster, while I know the author didn't enjoy them, I thought they were entertaining. It seemed like much of their music was lost by the poor quality of the Wolf Trap sound system, but they still managed to convey a great amount of energy, and the drummer playing with his hands instead of sticks was very interesting to watch. All in all I'd give it a 7/10 with one point deducted for the terrible performance of Rufus Wainright as the opening act.
